Combining new techniques with old materials
Porcelain is a traditional material that is usually designed manually or by molds. Using machines such as laser cutter and CNC machine is possible thanks to the new form of the material (Keraflex porcielain sheets).
Porcelain is often designed with very fine and elaborated details that are painted or carved. With the Keraflex sheets, even finer details can be made.
Using the CNC for cutting allows very clear and strong cuts
The porcelain has a special quality being half transparent of light to pass through it in thin material width
Using laser cutter for engraving enables the creation of a gradient of depths in the material, with fine steps of 0.1 mm difference.
Engraving the material as a flat sheet
than manipulating it as a flexible surface.

Cì is set to study possible appliances of digital tools in the design process of porcelain.
Porcelain is a traditional material that is usually designed manually or by a mold and is often decorated with very fine details of color or carvings.
With this new form of the material (Keraflex sheets) it is possible to use machines such as laser cutter and CNC machine in the design process.
Using laser machine for carving enables even finer details: carving line width of 0.1 mm is easy and accurate.
Patterns can be replicated and manual work can be assisted by digital guidance, for example to make marks, perforation holes, ect.
